Weekly Updates

Week 6

(11/12/12)

Software API and hardware design guidelines have been updated and posted. We have been in constant contact with Jason, Professor Kastner, and an Intel representative to resolve Quartus issue and basic working example to see basic hardware communication on the FPGA. Currently, Quartus 12 Subscription Edition is being put on the lab machines and should be resolved by the end of the week. A new link of notes by Sean has been updated and posted.

(11/04/12)

Contacted Professor Gupta and trying to get more help to resolve the developing platform issue. He informed us that he would help resolve this issue. Continuing to update software API and hardware design guidelines.

Week 5

(11/04/12)

We presented our midterm presentation on Thursday and received great feedback from the course professors. We are still currently working on and putting the initial finishing touches on both the API and hardware design guidelines. We will begin testing the API when we can get Quartus Subscription Edition. We are still currenting working with UCSD CSE IT department to get the full license.

First milestone has been updated again!

Week 4

(10/27/12)

We have hit a minor setback. We still haven't received the full license for Quartus Subscription Edition. Therefore, we are pushing back FPGA development until Sean and I can get a license for Quartus. Due to the setback, we have commenced and currently in the middle of developing the standard API for the FPGA and the hardware design guidelines. We have completed our midterm powerpoint and currently putting the finishing touches on the presentation.

First milestone has been updated!

Week 3

(10/21/12)

We ran PCI Express hard IP wizard and setup the PCIe for the FPGA. Currently working on interfacing simple device to the PCIe interface on the FPGA. Started to plan and write Linux API for an easy user interface for consumers. Contacted two external resources for additional information. Met with our Jason to discuss the progress of our project. Received all hardware. Still need to resolve Quartus 12 Subscription Edition.

Week 2

(10/12/12)

We obtained the FPGA board and the equipment for the project from our project mentor. We met up to finalize the project specification and planned out objectives for Week 3. Sean was able to do the initial power up successfully.

Week 1

(10/05/12)

We had our first meeting with Jason Oberg, our project mentor. We got more information about the project and discussed development objectives and project goals.
